State Comptroller Franchot Presents Award to West Middle School Volunteer
Jill Burnett, parent volunteer coordinator at West Middle School, has received the Golden Apple Award presented by Maryland State Comptroller Peter Franchot. The Comptroller personally presented the award at a special ceremony at West Middle School on Thursday, January 17, 2013.
This new award was created to recognize outstanding volunteers, organizations, and individuals within the Maryland public school system. One winner is selected from each school system in the state based on their demonstration of superior volunteer work in their schools.
In her role as volunteer coordinator, Jill sets up all of West Middle’s volunteer trainings, coordinates all team boosters, and organizes Teacher Appreciation Week. She also organizes meals for the entire staff on parent conference days. She is an active parent not only at West Middle, but also at Mechanicsville Elementary and Westminster High Schools. She helps with PTA events, makes copies for staff, and offers assistance and support to students and staff whenever it is needed.
